Facilities Manager/Caretaking
Salary: Grade 5 (scp 7-9) £26,403.00 to £27,254.00 per annum (pro rata) (pro rata salary based on 43 weeks per year and reduced hours is £18,504)
(The salary stated will be subject to a term time only adjustment if the commencement of employment is after the start of the academic year).
Contract: Part Time and Permanent
Work Pattern: 27.5 hours per week 12:30pm – 6:00pm Monday – Friday, term-time, 43 weeks per year

The Governing Body of St Joseph’s Cathedral Primary School is seeking to appoint a proactive, dependable and enthusiastic Facilities Manager/Caretaker to play a vital role in the day-to-day life of our school.
This is a key position within our community, ensuring that our school site is safe, welcoming and well maintained for pupils, staff, parents and visitors. The successful candidate will take pride in their work, demonstrate initiative and enjoy being part of a busy, friendly school environment.
The role will involve:
- Undertaking a wide range of caretaking duties, including cleaning, site security, repairs and routine maintenance
- Maintaining high standards across the school buildings and grounds to support children’s learning
- Using practical maintenance skills (carpentry, plumbing and painting skills are desirable)
- Working closely with staff to uphold health and safety across the site
- Liaising effectively with contractors and building services
- Acting as a key holder and ensuring site security
- Overseeing the work of school cleaners and additional caretaking staff
- Supporting the development and upkeep of school grounds and outdoor learning areas
We are looking for someone who:
- Is reliable, self-motivated and able to work on their own initiative
- Can prioritise tasks and respond flexibly in a dynamic school environment
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Enjoys working with children, parents and staff and brings a positive, cheerful approach
- Has COSHH awareness and a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
- Is physically fit and able to undertake lifting, moving and general portage
- Holds a current, full driving licence
- Is willing to engage in ongoing training and professional development
Previous experience is advantageous, but not essential, as training will be provided.
